School Rules and Sanctions

 

RULE

SANCTIONS/PUNISHMENT FOR BREACH/ NON ADHERENCE

1. IMPROPER DRESSING – GENERAL APPEARANCE / ATTIRE TO SCHOOL

a. Primary girls may have their hair neatly braided.

Every JSS student should have short hair

NB: No chemical treatment whatsoever allowed

b. No hair decorations and or attachments for all girls

c. No braiding of hair for boys.

d. Nails (both finger and toe) should always be short and neat. Artificial nails, nail vanish, lipstick and facial make-ups are not allowed

e. Only girls may wear earrings. These should be small studded ones. No hanging earrings allowed. No other form of jewelry should be worn.

f. Shirts /Blouses should be neatly tucked in short/skirts.

g. The length of girls’ skirt should never be above the knee. The length should be two (2) inches below the knee. This applies to outfits for other school activities as well.

h. All footwear must be the prescribed one.

i. School shorts should be worn at the waist, should have belt loops and must never be worn without a belt.

Shirts should be neatly tucked in shorts

2. ATTENDANCE TO SCHOOL

a. Repetitive lateness to school, extra classes and school gatherings. Pupils should be in school by 7:30am Classes end at 2:00pm for primary and 2:30 for JSS

b. Absence from school (Without permission) – (i) ill-health (ii) late return from holidays (iii) re-opening and before vacation.

3. TRUANCY

a. No student shall absent himself/herself from school without permission or reasonable excuses

b. Leaving the school compound without permission

4. BULLYING OF OTHER STUDENT/PUPILS

a. It is an offence to subject any other student / pupil to any form of bullying, taunting, verbal or physical abuse and any form of victimization whether inside or outside the classroom. Always inform a member of staff or head teacher if you feel you are being bullied or if you see or hear about anyone else being mistreated

5. RESPECT FOR PREFECTS

a. All pupils must respect the authority of prefects who must in turn respect other students /pupils

6. RESPONSIBILITY OF PREFECTS

a. All prefects should be at their various posts at assembly time and other duty periods. Duties must be carried out firmly. Prefects much wear their sashes always to school and leave them on till they leave the schools premises. Prefect should respect the authority vested in them and behave accordingly

Persistent failure to take up these responsibilities will result in demotion.

7. DISRESPECT FOR SHOOL AUTHORITIES

a. Misbehavior toward Head teacher / Teacher and any member of staff

3rd Offence - Expulsion

b. Any physical and or verbal attack on teachers and other members of staff

c. Refusal to submit to punishment

d. Refusal to participate in Academic work i.e. class work or home work

8. DEVIANT BEHAVIOUR

a. Possession and /or use of dangerous, poisonous, flammable or explosive item and implements on the school compound

1st Offence-Corporal punishment, notification of parents & counseling

2nd Offence- Suspension

b. Possession of and /or drinking alcohol and / or smoking or found to have drunk alcohol or smoked

Offense – Same as above

c. Possession and / or use of sexual /pornographic material on the school compound or found to have used such material.

d. Possession and /or use of mobile cellular phones, pagers video games pocket hi-fi ear phones etc, on the school compound during school hours. The school has a telephone it will be used to contact parents during school hours if the need arises

e. Gambling of any sort of form is prohibited on the school compound, during or after school closes

9. STEALING AND BURGLARY

e.g. stealing from a teacher / students bag /drawer, making arrangements to steal and stealing someone’s or the school property

10. EXAMINATION ETHIC

a. Cheating during internal Examination

1st Cancellation of the exam paper, formal warning to pupil and notification of parents

2nd Offence- as in 1st Offense plus suspension

b. Failure to write examination without justifiable cause

1st Offence- Formal warning and counseling to pupil and parents

2nd Offence-Suspension

3rd Offence - Expulsion

11. DAMAGE/DESTRUCTION OF SCHOOL PROPERTY

a. Willfully destroying, causing damaged to or defacing of school property

1st Offence- Formal warning to pupil and notification of parent, payment of three (3) the value of damaged property & counseling

2nd Offence-Suspension & payment of three (3) times the value of damaged property

3rd Offence - Expulsion

12. IMMORALITY

All students/pupils are strongly encouraged to interact with each other in a healthy manner. There should be no immoral or indecent relationships amongst pupils/ students and teachers. In school, during school function or on school trips there should be no immoral or indecent behavior. Always inform the school authorities if you see or hear of any such relationship

Offences – will be referred to the school’s disciplinary committee for the appropriate sanction/ punishments to be considered on its own merit and appropriate sanctions meted out.

13. LITTERING OF COMPOUND AND CLASSROOM

A healthy mind lives in a healthy body. No one should litter ht floors of their classrooms or the school compound; including the toilets which must be neatly maintained by all. All should strive to keep the environment clean.

14. UNAUTHORISED ACCESS TO SCHOOL GROUNDS /PUPILS DURING SCHOOL HOURS

Parents/ Guardians/Siblings are strongly advised to lodge complaints with the head teacher or seek his or her permission before interacting with teachers/wards during school hours. The use of the suggestion box to lodge complaints or offer suggestions is also encouraged

FOOT NOTES

1) Testimonials for students /pupils will be based on their behavior and / or comportment while in the school.

2) The school authorities, through its appropriate arms, have the prerogative to prescribe any other measures to ensure strict adherence to the school’s rules and regulations and code of conduct.

3) The school authorities reserve the right to review the rules and regulation, code of conduct and Sanctions / punishment in cases of breach of social /moral ethics not mentioned in this booklet.

4) Corporal punishment may be administered by the head teacher or his /her assigns in his /her presence and will recorded in the school’s log book.

5) All rules apply during any occasion In which the school is involved.

6) Repeated infraction of the rules and regulations after the third offence will be automatic expulsion.

7) Suspension will not normally exceed two (2) weeks

8) All criminal offences will be referred to the Police
